Over Capstone I and Capstone II, students in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Data Science & AI form teams to take a project from concept to a working product — practicing requirements, architecture, agile delivery, and professional presentation. Projects culminate in our end-of-term showcases — hosted virtually by KFSCIS in the summer, and as part of the College of Engineering & Computing Senior Design Showcase in the spring — where teams demo their work to faculty, industry judges, and the public.

In the College's own words, the capstone is a junior course (Capstone 1) and a senior course (Capstone 2), run in an Agile environment, in faculty-supervised teams of up to five members. Capstone 1 lays the groundwork — requirements, design, and planning — and Capstone 2 delivers and presents the working product.

A note on terminology: at KFSCIS we call these Capstone Projects (formerly "Senior Projects"); across the wider College of Engineering & Computing the same work is known as Senior Design Projects. (College program description)

This site publishes project titles, disciplines, and abstracts so the community can explore what FIU computing students build each term. Participants (students, reviewers, and faculty) sign in for the live portal.

Our Capstone Story

Prof. S. Masoud Sadjadi has been an FIU professor since Fall 2004. He took over the Senior Project course and ran the first showcase in Fall 2012 — and the showcase has run every semester since Fall 2012, never interrupted: three per year (Fall, Spring, and Summer), with summers held virtually, and continuing virtually through COVID.

Long known as “Senior Projects,” the program is today the FIU KFSCIS Capstone — across the College of Engineering & Computing the same work is known as Senior Design Projects.
